Simcoe Community Services is a non-profit, charitable organization. We are the largest provider of services for individuals with intellectual challenges in Simcoe County with over 550 employees and a budget of over $42 million. We have a number of summer employment opportunities available in Accommodation Services (group homes) and Community Support Services in Barrie and Orillia. Utilizing the Personal Outcome philosophy, students will provide support services to meet the direct care needs of individuals within our programs. Students enrolled in the Developmental Services Worker, Child & Youth Worker, Early Childhood Education, Social Service Worker programs or university level programs in Nursing, Psychology, Sociology or other closely related fields of study will be considered for these positions. 
The positions are available from April to September 2018 and offer up to full time hours of employment. The hours of work may require that you are available to work evenings, nights and weekends as scheduled. In addition to your present educational qualifications a current criminal reference check with vulnerable sector screening will be required. A valid class G driver's license is an asset.

Support Worker

We are one of the largest accredited community living organizations in Ontario providing services through a variety of programs which include; Accommodation Services and Community Support Services in the Barrie and Orillia areas. As an organization we look for individuals who demonstrate initiative, collaboration, resilience, creative problem solving and an ability to advocate and foster independence in others.
We are presently accepting resumes for part time Support Workers to work in our Accommodation programs (group homes) in Barrie and Orillia.  This position supports people with intellectual disabilities with all aspects of their daily living.  Duties may include support with finances, medical appointments, personal care, household duties, meal preparation and supporting individuals to make connections within their community.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB INCLUDE:

a certificate, diploma or degree in the health sciences field which may include, but is not limited to, DSW, SSW, PSW,etc.  Please note we are now accepting applicants with Personal Support Worker Certificates.
minimum of 6 months recent full time work experience in a community residential setting providing support for intellectually challenged individuals is an asset;
proven ability to work as part of a team and/or independently;
excellent communication skills, including listening and interpersonal skills;
good computer skills in Microsoft Office and database experience is required;
must be available to work all shifts which will include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays and commit to working up to 60 hours biweekly;
A current clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening check, pre-employment medical, valid class G driver's license and reliable transportation are required.

ensure  medical appointments are scheduled and attended by individuals;
participate in meal planning and preparation; grocery shopping, house cleaning; laundry and to support individuals to participate in these activities when appropriate;
provide personal care for individuals in keeping with their abilities;
provide opportunities for individuals to participate in community activities and make connections within their community according to their interests;

Support Worker - Awake Nights

As an organization we look for individuals who demonstrate initiative, collaboration, resilience, creative problem solving and an ability to advocate and foster independence in others.
We are presently accepting resumes for the position of  full-time Support Workers - Awake Overnight to work in our Accommodation programs (group homes).  We have 1 permanent and several temporary assignments of up to 1 year available.   These positions provide supportive services  to meet the direct care needs of individuals in the Accommodation's program in Barrie utilizing the Personal Outcomes philosophy.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB INCLUDE:
 The successful candidate for this position must be prepared to and will be required to work primarily the awake overnight shift.

D.S.W. diploma or an acceptable educational equivalency (Child & Youth Worker, E.C.E., S.S.W., Nursing, Psychology, etc.) as determined by the employer is required;
a minimum of six months recent work experience providing support for individuals with an intellectual  disability is required;
proven ability to work as part of a team and/or independently;
current valid certificates and a demonstrated proficiency in First Aid, C.P.R., N.V.C.I. and medication dispensing or successful completion of a recognized pharmacology course is preferred;
excellent communication skills including listening and interpersonal skills;
good computer skills in microsoft office products and experience with databases is required;
Understanding of the Agency's principles and demonstrated ability in supporting individuals to meet their personal support outcomes is essential.
