Simcoe County Infant Development Program

The Simcoe County Infant Development Program is a home-based service available to families with infants under 3 years of age, who are at risk of or who have been identified as having a developmental delay. A child may be referred by parents themselves or with the assistance of professionals, whenever there is a concern regarding the child’s development or parenting support needs.

Recognizing that the family is the primary source of support and nurturing for the child, intervention on behalf of the child is family centred and directed.  Each individual child’s strengths and needs are identified through a functional developmental assessment. Activity suggestions and program ideas are provided that support the infant’s development.  Parent training and support to promote healthy parent/child interactions are also available.

A family service plan is developed with the family who is assisted to access a variety of professional services as needed.  These could include a physio/occupational therapist, speech/language pathologist, family counseling, psychometric testing and behavioural intervention.

Services are available throughout the County with our main office in Barrie and satellite offices situated in Alliston, Bradford, Collingwood, Midland and Orillia.   There are no costs involved. This service is funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.
