New Application Process for Developmental Services for Adults

Effective July 1, 2011, Simcoe Community Services and all other Ministry of Community and Social Service funded Agencies who provide services to adults who have a developmental disability will no longer receive applications or confirm eligibility for services and supports funded under the Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, 2008.

There is a new application process for developmental services for adults: On July 4, 2011 the new Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) organizations opened for business. The DSO will serve as the single point of access for Ministry-funded adult developmental services and supports in each region. This means that people applying for services will only have to connect with one contact point to apply for services and supports. The new application process and the new regional DSO organizations will help to make Ontario’s community-based adult developmental services system easier to access, fair and more consistent.

People applying for Ministry-funded adult developmental services and supports for the first time need to contact their regional DSO organization. The local DSO organization will confirm their eligibility using the new eligibility criteria, and assess their service and support needs using the new Application Package. The access number for the Central East Region DSO is 1-855-277-2121.

People who have already applied for and are currently receiving services and supports or who are currently waiting for services and supports will not have to reconfirm their eligibility through the DSO with permission, their information will be integrated into the new system.
