Family Support

Family Support offers case management and support to families of children who have an intellectual disability and who are living at home.  Using a family centred approach, workers assist families to identify and access the services and information they require to support themselves and their family member in the community.  Direct and indirect supports are provided through family visits, parent-to-parent contacts, groups, resource information, consultation to community agencies, and public education.

The level of support varies depending on the needs of the family, and can range from a single Resource Appointment to ongoing regular support.  For those receiving ongoing support, an Individual Family Service Plan (I.F.S.P.) is established with the family and reviewed annually to address ongoing needs.  Follow up support is also available to families who do not require regular contact but who would like the opportunity for periodic brief consultation.

Family Support Workers also provide Single Plan of Care (SPOC) Coordination to families served by the Children’s Treatment Network.  As SPOC Coordinators, Family Support Workers coordinate all of the services involved with the child and family and facilitate the development and ongoing review of the Single Plan of Care.

Family Support is available at no cost to families in Barrie, Bradford and the surrounding townships.  The program is funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services and governed by the Child and Family Services Act.
