Supported Independent Living

The Supported Independent Living Program provides support to individuals in Barrie and Orillia who reside in their own apartment, townhouse, rooming house or detached home setting and occasionally when still living at home.  The amount of staff support varies among individuals and can fluctuate as situations arise.  Staff provides assistance primarily in the areas of banking, budgeting, grocery shopping and meal preparation.

They also support people in their choices of working, volunteering or pursuing leisure activities.

Staff also play a case management role assisting individuals to access community services as needed such as employment services, Community Care Access Centre and other medical supports.  If support needs decrease to a minimum, a referral to the Community Resources Worker Program would be a consideration.

The Supported Independent Living program is free-of-charge and is governed by the Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, 2008.
