Group Homes

The group home setting is one available residential option within Accommodation Services.  The level of support provided is dependent on the needs of the individual.

A group home may offer 24 hour staffing or less support as is needed.

Individuals are supported to make choices, develop skills, increase independence, and to become involved and connected within the community.   Participation in household responsibilities is encouraged as is accessing recreational activities available in the community.

Group homes placements are available for both children and adults.  Group homes are situated in Barrie, Orillia and adjacent townships.

Children attend neighbourhood schools.  Their therapy needs are met through community agencies and the Board of Education. An annual plan of care in conjunction with parents and guardians helps set future goals.  Children’s group homes are licensed under the Child and Family Services Act.

Adults are supported in their choice of work, volunteer and/or recreation pursuits. A Person Centred Plan is developed with the individual and those important in his/her life.  Adult group homes are licensed under the Services and Supports to Promote the Social Inclusion of Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act, 2008.
